With its pink façade, historic charm, and coastal views, La Valencia Hotel has long been one of my dream venues to photograph. So when Laryn and Ryan reached out about having me photograph their wedding there, I was beyond excited. Keep reading to see highlights from their day and why I love this iconic San Diego wedding location.

What Made Laryn and Ryan’s San Diego Wedding Special

Laryn and Ryan, both San Diego locals, hoped to find a venue that felt true to the place they call home. The La Valencia Hotel couldn’t have been a more perfect match. After a ceremony at a nearby church, everyone gathered at this beautiful property to celebrate into the night. Here are a few of my favorite parts of their wedding day.

A True Love of the Venue

For Laryn and Ryan, The La Valencia Hotel was more than just a backdrop. It also served as a source of inspiration for the couple. Ryan is a photographer himself, so a picturesque wedding venue was a priority. Fortunately, the property is full of charming corners and sweeping coastal views. They also incorporated their favorite mosaic tile painting from the hotel into their wedding invitations. The La Valencia Hotel was a true character in their celebration and its charm was woven into every part of their day.

Timeless, Coastal Aesthetic

Laryn and Ryan’s wedding vision paired classic elements with a laid-back Southern California energy that reflected their personality and vibe. Their day was filled with white florals and fresh greenery, with bold accents and coastal details woven throughout. I loved that it struck the perfect balance between timeless elegance with a fun, Southern California twist. Laryn’s gown was also the star of the show, as you’ll see below. It was one of the most unique dresses I’ve ever photographed!

Celebrating on the Dance Floor

The couple brought a fun, joyful spirit to their entire San Diego wedding, and nowhere was that more present than on the dance floor. Alongside a DJ, they brought in a live saxophonist, which added even more spark and energy to the night. As they danced, they also passed around espresso martinis and playful props like fans, streamers, and even fish-themed masks. Everyone was dancing, laughing, and fully present, creating memories that felt carefree and unforgettable.

La Valencia Hotel: An Iconic San Diego Wedding Venue

If you couldn’t already tell, the La Valencia Hotel is one of my favorite San Diego wedding venues. Here are a few of the many reasons why this property is so special.

Easy Beach Access

The beach is just a short walk from the hotel, which makes it incredibly convenient to step away for portraits without taking too much time away from the celebration. Plus, if you don’t feel like walking, the La Valencia Hotel offers a golf cart transport service making it even easier to access. I always prioritize the time you spend with your loved ones on your wedding day, so having beach access so close makes it easy to get back to your friends and family as quickly as possible. During Laryn and Ryan’s wedding, we slipped away for a few moments by the water before heading right back to the party.

Endless Beautiful Backdrops

The La Valencia Hotel is full of character, with endless pockets of charm to explore. I loved walking the property with Laryn and Ryan, discovering everything from its hidden details to postcard-worthy coastal views. Whether you’re drawn to chic photos featuring the property’s unique architecture or open ocean backdrops, it has a little bit of everything.

Unique Character and Charm

There’s truly no place like the La Valencia Hotel. It’s instantly recognizable with its signature pink exterior, tall palm trees, and Spanish tile roof. Inside, you’ll find fun details throughout, including its mosaic tiling to the black-and-white checkered dance floor. It’s a one-of-a-kind, quintessential San Diego wedding venue.
